The “PowerHouse” is a tiny home structure full of exhibits that educate renters and home-owners on ways to reduce their energy use and transition to renewable forms of energy. Our hope is that after visiting the PowerHouse you come away with greater energy literacy, an appreciation for the role of energy efficiency, and a sense of how renewable forms of heating and powering your home can lead to greater comfort, energy, and money savings.
Some things the PowerHouse does:
Serves as an outreach tool at community events- referring people to Community Energy Advisors, energy auditors, local contractors, and rebate and incentive programs for home energy improvement projects
Educates about DIY projects home-owners and renters can undertake to lower their energy consumption
Visits classes, libraries, and educational institutions to provide activities and lessons centered on energy efficiency and clean energy
The PowerHouse is a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County and supports Smart Energy Choices, the Southern Tier’s Regional Clean Energy Hub. Smart Energy Choices helps households with limited income learn about ways they can save energy and money in the Southern Tier region.
